Liturgical
Music
Mission
Repertoire
The goal of the OLGC music ministry is to offer a diverse, common repertoire that nourishes and respects the spiritual needs of all parishioners. Therefore, the choir generally will sing the same songs each weekend, as outlined in the music menu. For pastoral reasons, the music director may make occasional changes for a particular Mass.
Preparation
“All pastoral musicians-professional or volunteer, full-time or part-time, director or choir member, cantor or instrumentalist, exercise a genuine liturgical ministry. The community of the faithful has a right to expect that this service will be provided competently.”
The choir’s role is to help lead the assembly in sung prayer. We cannot do this well without adequate preparation. Therefore, choir members are encouraged to attend rehearsals regularly. We rehearse in the church on Thursday evenings starting at 7 pm. If you have to miss an occasional rehearsal, you will need to take music home and learn it on your own. Recordings of some hymns may be available. Choir members needing additional help or other arrangements should contact the music director.
Regular Choir

Resurrection Choir
Funerals, as scheduled
Choir membership
The choir is open to vocalists from middle school through adults (and instrumentalists
with sufficient playing experience). Children in second through fifth grade are welcome
at the 10:00 am liturgy (and, with permission of the director, at other liturgies).
Requirements
Choir members should “share the faith” (STL 49), enjoy singing (or playing) liturgical music, want to serve the community, and express the love of God and neighbor through music (STL 49),” and be willing and able to commit time for preparation and liturgy. Those interested in joining should contact the music director for an informal meeting and assessment
of voice part.

Eucharistic Adoration
Mission
Jesus desires that all of us form a very personal and intimate relationship with Him and it is through this most special and personal encounter that we can express our inmost feelings and listen to Jesus. Eucharistic Adoration is a special invitation from Christ to experience the grace of God, to pray for mercy for ourselves, our family, our community, our nation and the world, and to just give thanks and praise to God for all our blessings. Eucharistic Adoration is every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and Friday morning following the 8:30 a.m. Mass.
Eucharistic Ministers
Mission
Eucharistic Ministers are confirmed parishioners who assist in distributing the Eucharist at weekday, weekend, and holy day liturgies. Some Eucharistic Ministers may also wish to bring Communion to homebound parishioners on a temporary or long-term basis. Attendance at a training session is required, after which the priest will commission you for this important ministry.
Visitation
Mission
Anyone interested in visiting the sick or elderly at home, in the hospital, or in a nursing home is invited to be part of this group. The goal of the group is to let those who are unable to come to church know that they are very much a part of OLGC and that we care.
Lectors
Mission
Lectors assist at weekday, weekend, and holy day liturgies by proclaiming the words of Holy Scripture. A training session is required, after which the priest will commission you for this ministry. The ideal Lector is an excellent public speaker who prepares and confidently proclaims God’s word.
Ushers
Mission
Duties include taking up collections, seating parishioners, and assisting the priest when a special need arises.
Adult Altar Servers
Mission
Adult Altar Servers assist the priest at Mass to keep a smooth flow to the logistics of celebrating Mass. They are needed especially at Masses when Youth Altar Servers are not available such as Sunday 7:00 Mass and funeral Masses. Training is required. A new server will always be paired with an experienced server until he or she is comfortable. This ministry is open to all men and women of the parish over 18 years of age.
Youth Altar Servers
Mission
Any boy or girl in 4th grade and above may become an altar server. Duties consist of assisting at Weekend Masses, funerals, weddings, and other special occasions. Training sessions for new members are held as needed.
Prayer Meetings
At OLGC and OLS, we hold prayer meeting gatherings and you
are cordially invited to attend:
At OLS, we hold twice a month meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday mornings after the 8 am Mass. Meeting runs from 8:45 am - 10 am in school room 11. January meetings are scheduled for January 13th and 27th
At OLGC, we meet on the 2nd Friday evening at the White House building (next to OLGC school) from 6:30 - 8 pm. Next gathering is Friday, January 9th.
Light refreshments are available at both (coffee, tea).
We have a Life in the Spirit seminar scheduled at OLGC for January 8th and the next 6 successive Thursday evenings from 6 pm (free dinner) and will wrap up by 8 pm. If you would like more information and/or to sign up, please let me know. The Life in the Spirit seminar is a teaching program about the fullness of life in Christ through the activation of the Holy Spirit in your life, enriching the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. It is a powerful experience and well worth the investment. Please contact me (Dc. Paul Heiland) at this email or at the OLGC parish office (607-748-7417, ext 4). Hoping to see you all there! May the joy of Christ’s coming be blessed in your hearts and lives!
Seder Dinner
Mission
An annual tradition here at OLGC, the Seder Meal is a commemoration of the Jewish Passover tradition that became Christ’s Last Supper. Many parishioners gather to share in the traditional prayers of the Seder and share in the Seder meal. Volunteers also help prepare the supper. Held during Holy Week, this is a satisfying and spiritually fulfilling beginning to the Triduum.
Stations of the Cross
Mission
Stations of the Cross are offered every Friday during Lent at 7 p.m. They provide opportunities to reflect on the Passion of Jesus and what he teaches us through it. Stations of the Cross closes with Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction.
Other Special Events
Other Special Liturgical Events:
Memorial and Healing Masses are offered during the year.
